After discovering the wide variety of virtual manipulatives
that the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives has to offer, I decided to
further explore their website to see which manipulatives could be the most
useful in my classroom. The website has organized all the virtual manipulatives
it supports into categories: Numbers & Operations, Geometry, Algebra,
Measurement, Data Analysis & Probability. These mathematic concepts are
broken down by grade from K-12.
One of the virtual manipulatives from the algebra category
that appears in every grade from kindergarten all the way through 12 is the
Algebra Tiles. According to the NLVM website, these tiles help students
visualize concepts such as multiplying and factoring in algebraic equations.
The tiles are interactive and easy to use for students of every age.
