Students who struggle with visual-spatial relationships will often experience challenges setting up mathematical equations because of the organization this task requires. Students with motor control difficulties will also have a hard time setting up and solving mathematical expressions or equations using traditional pencil and paper. Below are some of the educational applications I've come across that will make math instruction more accessible for students with these challenges.
Number Navigator is for students who require the assistance of a simple math processor to create mathematical expressions or equations. The free program allows student to enter and solve simple problems with the ability to manipulate text size, color, and font.
MathPad can be downloaded to Ipads and allows users to use their fingers to write any equation on the screen without needing to grasp or manipulate a pencil. The app is capable of presenting problems in a variety of ways including solution methods and graphing information.
Virtual pencils are downloadable computer software that allows users to interactively solve math problems. Virtual pencils are compatible with screen readers or braille displays.
