Assistive Technology and Math

My research for the blog lately has focused on assistive technologies geared towards reducing barriers for students with reading challenges, including visual and auditory impairments and specific learning disabilities. Addressing reading challenges with AT is an important matter to me as I am currently working in the reading support pull out program at my school. However, I have started to wonder what AT applications and device are available for students who struggle with mastering mathematical concepts.

My school currently uses the Go Math program in all grades which offers suggestions for specific interventions to meet the needs of students who process information slightly differently and it does provide an electronic version that can be used to teach interactive lessons on the SMARTBoard.

But what about students who moderate to severe learning disabilities? How can teachers reduce barriers and incorporate UDL principles into their math lessons?
